The Fillies And Mares Incentive Scheme (FAMIS) was established by the NZTBA in 1992 with two key objectives:

  • To encourage investment in fillies and mares
  • To support the development of fillies and mares racing in New Zealand.

FAMIS bonuses were worth $5750. Of this total $5000 was paid to the owner and $750 was paid to the nominator of each filly that won a designated bonus race. Entries for each crop's Fillies And Mares Incentive Scheme were taken from August to October (early nominations of just-turned yearling fillies) and May to July (acceptances of previously nominated yearling fillies and late entries).

The NZTBA sincerely thanks all breeders, owners, trainers, buyers and clubs that have supported FAMIS for the 11 years it was running.  The Association especially wishes to acknowledge the work of former NZTBA councillor and current Life Member Ron Ladd who initiated the scheme for the benefit of the New Zealand thoroughbred industry.

FAMIS concluded in 2006 when the final foal crop of 2001 completed their four-year-old season.
